Kickstarter has launched..... BRICK BY BRICK

The idea to launch a Kickstarter campaign was a couple of months back but now it has actually launched it feels surreal but of course there is a lot more work to do after it has launched because we need as many people as possible to know about it.
The past couple of days I have been contacting bloggers from around the world, telling them why I feel they should share our journey with their network, I don't think I could count how many I have contacted... You know, I didn't ever realise how difficult it would be to get people to feel the same way as you do about your concerns, but it really is a serious challenge! A challenge that I am taking head on. Hours and hours of typing pitches to people that I don't know, hoping that it will click with them in a similar but completely different way to how I clicked in Larabanga all those months ago.
So when I go back to Larabanga late November, apart from being absolutely over the moon to see the people who have made me, I will be documenting their lives over a two month period- maybe then, this will be the point when my dreams for Larabanga also become the dreams of other people around the world.
I have always wanted to be a part of a documentary but the idea of just being told where you are going to go and what you are going to talk about, doesn't appeal to me. I have to discover the hidden gems myself because then it really is a completely unique insight. I have never done this before so it will be a definite new experience, But I have all of the help and resources that I need, a video camera that a friend is kindly letting me use and of course a community full of enthusiastic, camera loving people!
The proceeds from the Kickstarter will help to build the Education Centre, a place were the disadvantaged children can have a safe environment to learn and live. Brick by brick we will succeed but not on our own, we need the world to see us!

Captured by the spirit

Recently, I have been thinking of Larabanga and everyone there, more than usual. I call that place my home and I am counting down until the day I get back there, the community spirit is infectious and being back home in England there is none of that, it’s a strange feeling… Living in a country with most of your friends and family around you but feeling more at home in a village where you spent a matter of weeks. Saying it was a life changing experience doesn’t even come close. Those few weeks have made the project what it is, sleeping on a roof under the stars… I never realised I could be captured.

When Nathalie was in Larabanga she took some mosquito nets that had been kindly donated, in the picture (left), Ayisha and Mukarama are discussing how to use them, they are so inquisitive, working things out for themselves, having to rely on each other without having the security of their parents to guide them. They guide themselves. 

I had the most encouraging news from Larabanga recently too, a young boy called Baba, paying his school fees, I have been very impressed with his progression, his English has improved from nothing!! But even more heart-warming and encouraging is that at the age of 4 years old, he goes back to his village (Larabanga) and he speaks the English he can and he helps the other children to learn too. The spirit of the children never fails to leave me speechless and with more than a few tears in my eyes, that is why we are going to succeed in shaping their future.

One way that we are planning to do this is through a project funding site called Kick Starter, currently we are perfecting how we are going to present the project on the site, we need it to be perfect so a lot of working is going into getting it ready… Watch this space.
